Characteristics of chronic cough patients across Europe: A descriptive analysis from the ERS NEuroCOUGH CRC Registry

<bold>INTRODUCTION:</bold> The ERS NEuroCOUGH CRC established the first Europe-wide chronic cough (CC) patient registry comprising clinical, physiological and biological data. Here we report a descriptive analysis of clinical characteristics at baseline and 12-month follow up. <bold>Methods:</bold> Participants were recruited across 10 European cough centres. Clinical data and patient reported outcomes (cough severity VAS and cough-specific health status Leicester Cough Questionnaire; LCQ) were collected at baseline and 12-month follow up. <bold>Results:</bold> 598 participants enrolled and 126 (21%) participants completed follow up from 08/21 to 12/23; mean (SD) age 60 (12) years and 441 (74%) female. Refractory CC was the commonest cause at baseline (41%) (Table 1). Features of cough hypersensitivity were common with 569 (95%) participants reporting ≥1 triggers; median (IQR) 5 (3-7) triggers (eg cold air). Participants considered previous treatment trials ineffective; <1% reported a complete response. Vomiting, urinary incontinence and syncope were common complications (50%, 44% and 14% respectively). Cough severity and health status were moderately affected and persisted at follow up (Table 1). <bold>CONCLUSION:</bold> This first pan-European cohort of unselected patients attending cough clinics suggests participants exhibit demographics, comorbidities and cough burden consistent with previous smaller studies; over a third appear to have refractory CC. <fig><object-id>erj;64/suppl_68/PA2130/F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><object-id>F1</object-id><graphic></graphic></fig>
