Bryophyte species as indicative for different typologies of heathland/forest succession gradient.

Monitoring and understanding the dynamics and the geographic distribution of species according to the biotic and abiotic factors that characterize the structure of landscapes, is a very important concept for the conservation of habitats of community interest and biodiversity. In this objective this article analyses the geographic distribution of bryophytes along different phases of colonization of heathlands by woody species in the Fontainebleau Forest in France, using IndVal indicator species analysis for three environmental variables: the age of the afforestation, the physiognomy, the type of woody species population. The results show the presence of indicatives Bryophyte species in the different typologies of the succession gradient, these results can be useful to assist land managers for the conservation of heathlands, designed as an habitats of community interest in Annex I of the EC Habitats Directive (EC Habitats Directive 1992).
