7 Learning with leaders from diverse health systems on how to accelerate workforce safety

<h3>Description</h3> Workforce safety is a challenge across the US and a major threat to the success of health systems. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports healthcare workers have one of the highest rates of nonfatal occupational injuries. Healthcare systems face the daily challenge of reversing these troubling trends to better protect and optimize the well-being of their workforce. In this workshop we will illustrate how each of our health systems leverages a strategic investment in safety into tactical improvement work which includes: integration of trauma informed care; use of high reliability principles in workforce safety; alignment of patient and workforce safety using safety I and II strategies; and initiatives to address incivility, verbal threats, and physical harm that comprise workplace violence. Participating health systems will share results, where applicable, to demonstrate impact of interventions on metrics such as employee physical harm and engagement/wellbeing data as well as strategies for measuring the impact of psychological and emotional harm. Workforce safety requires strategic investment as well as continuously integrating novel approaches to reducing harm that can also promote workforce well-being and optimize care delivery.
