Neodiskurse und ihre Morphologie – Bemerkungen zum Substantivprimat

The field of discourse linguistics seems to focus primarily on the noun, both in the naming of discourses by researchers and in the actual analysis, which means that other parts of speech are often disregarded.In our paper, we argue that this indicates a general emphasis on thematic issues in discourse linguistics.Moreover, the interest in nouns may also show that public interest is primarily focused on objects.We posit that the noun is of particular relevance as a way of naming these objects and of reifying complex matters.In our study, we focus on the analysis of a neo-discoursenamely discourse-linguistic and lexicographical studies of new vocabulary used during the COVID-19 pandemic -, taking a closer look at the parts of speech that are discussed (e.g.concerning word formation).The consequences of a noun-oriented approach shall then be discussed, regarding the kinds of results that can be achieved this way, as well as taking a critical look at how other, more dynamic elements of discourses might be neglected.
