The Power of Storytelling and the Positive Impact They Have on Students of Color

Storytelling through the perspective of teachers of color can have a positive impact on students of color. With immigrant, migrant, and refugee populations increasing in classrooms across the United States of America, storytelling is a powerful vessel to assist students with their social and emotional needs during instruction and learning. Moreover, storytelling can teach culturally diverse populations empathy through the powerful lens of their teachers. This is essentially more powerful if their teachers look like the diverse students that they serve daily. This chapter aims to tell the stories of three prominent Latinx teachers and how they have used their respective stories to inspire and empower their students of color to be the best versions of themselves culturally, emotionally, linguistically, and academically.
