Abstract

A simple, ray-optical model of mode-stirred reverberating enclosures, exhibits all relevant features in terms of chaos. The chaotic transition occurs as the peak-to-peak harmonic wall displacement becomes comparable to the EM wavelength. Reverberating properties can be related to and described in terms of Lyapounov exponents. Simple design optimization criteria emerge quite naturally.
