Analyzing Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) in Home Appliances: A Study on Conducted Emissions

This paper investigates electromagnetic interference(EMI) in home appliances like microwaves, refrigerators, and washing machines, focusing on conducted emissions. By comparing simulation results with practical tests, it highlights the effectiveness of ANSYS simulation software in analyzing EMI. The software aids in modeling and simulating electronic PCBs with multiple switching elements, such as SMPS and Buck Converters, to address EMI concerns. As appliances integrate more electronics, meeting CISPR standards is crucial. The study includes simulations with LISN models, SPICE models, and PCB parasitics, analyzing SMPS power supplies with flyback topology at 132 kHz and Buck circuits at 800 kHz. Peak spectral plot analysis helps identify potential PCB noise sources. Comparing simulations with measurements reveals areas for improving modeling approaches, optimizing PCB designs.
