Defining Solvent-Free Coatings—A Volatile Subject

A new test method is proposed to support the creation of unified definitions of solvent-free and ultra-high-solids coatings for use in the maritime industry. The method is based on extensive experimental studies on model coatings to create a practical, accurate, and reliable method. Several surprising findings on the behavior of common coatings ingredients under realistic conditions are presented and discussed for their contributions and potential challenges in high-solids coatings.
