Do Gamers Learn Better From Games? – Insights From Hierarchical Linear Modelling

This study examines how learner characteristics, including gaming experience, prior knowledge, and gender, influence learning gains in game-based learning.Using hierarchical linear modeling, the study found that gaming experience was the strongest predictor of learning outcomes, though marginally significant, while prior knowledge showed the greatest per-unit increase.Gender did not significantly affect outcomes, contradicting some previous findings.These results highlight the nuanced relationship between individual factors and game-based learning, emphasizing the importance of game type and instructional context.
