Global Corrosivity Map: An Insight into Global Corrosion

Global corrosion comes at a large cost and carbon footprint. This article presents an overview of global corrosion rates and categories. The global corrosion maps presented are constructed using the principles of ISO 19735 and the calculations proposed in ISO 9223, utilizing open-source environmental data as input. The resulting global map reveals significant variations in atmospheric corrosivity, highlighting the impact of environmental factors such as chloride deposition and industrial pollution. This approach aims to make decision-making processes related to corrosion more data driven, and to better control the impact of corrosion when building for a more sustainable future for future generations.
