Simulation Verifications of a Beam Synthesis Method on a Phased Array System in the Radiating Near Field

This study presents a method to form flat-topped beams of various shapes in the radiating near field for various forms of rectenna arrays by means of superposing multi-beam. The method is characterised by the Taylor pattern superposition, which achieves low sidelobes and allows flexibility in the arrangement of the superposed beams. Using electromagnetic field simulations, it was verified that flat-topped beams for Square, rectangular, trapezoidal, and hexagonal rectenna arrays are formed using this method. In all cases, the power density received by more than 70.0 % of the receiving plane was within -4.5 dB of the maximum value. Moreover the transmission efficiency was greater than 65 %, exceeding the efficiency using uniform phase beam.
