Early simulation and evaluation of tolerancing effects of optical mounting cells using mechanical pivot points

Tolerance analysis is a key aspect of an optical design development cycle. It tends to be more accurate and reliable if the optical model includes optomechanical considerations early in the process. We have introduced new capabilities to Ansys Zemax OpticStudio, which allow users to add pivot points in the optical model. This way, the user can consider specific lens mounting cells, specific lens retaining configurations and the fact that some components may be mechanically connected by parts such as lens barrels throughout the tolerance analysis.
