Robust Control Strategy for Mitigating Harmonic Distortion in Solar PV and BES

This paper introduces an adaptive control strategy utilizing Laguerre Kernel Arctangent Least Mean Square (L-KALMS) algorithm for a microgrid (MG) powered by a voltage source inverter (VSC), which incorporates solar photovoltaic (SPV) array and a battery energy storage (BES) to support critical loads. SPV array is connected directly to VSC DC-link through a bidirectional DC-DC converter (BDDC) to regulate BES within a single-stage setup. VSC operates in gridconnected mode (GCM) using a current control method. In the event of a grid failure, the system seamlessly switches to voltage control, enabling uninterrupted power to critical loads while functioning in standalone mode (SAM). To eliminate unwanted grid current harmonics and to ensure clean, sinusoidal voltages at point of common coupling (PCC), an enhanced high-order generalized integrator (EHOGI) is used as a pre-filter. Microgrid’s performance is evaluated in MATLAB/Simulink environment, demonstrating effective operation during dynamic conditions in both GCM and SAM, grid failures, and grid restoration.
