Establishing monthly cardiac arrest simulation in the Regional Day Procedure Centre

Background: The incidence of cardiac arrest within the UK is about one per 1000 hospital admissions.1 There is a high mortality rate, with fewer than one in five patients surviving to discharge.2 Every minute that defibrillation is delayed can reduce survival by 10%.3 It was recognised that nurses in the Regional Day Procedure Centre (RDPC) had low confidence in dealing with emergencies/cardiac arrest. There was also a loss of training and educational support while a nurse educator role was vacant.
