Low Noise Repetition Rate Multiplication of a Modelocked Er Fiber Laser With a V-Cavity

Self-injection locking to external reference cavities can potentially overcome the repetition rate and phase noise limitations of conventional fiber frequency combs, especially when compared to solid-state lasers. Keys to enabling self-injection locking are the use of high gain laser materials such as doped optical fibers that ensure the system can start from noise and effective pulse shaping ensues even with many pulses residing within a laser cavity to result in the production of fs pulses, as required for full comb stabilization, as recently demonstrated[1].
