Historically, higher education was built for the benefit and success of non-Black folks (Wagoner & Star, 2021; Tomlin & Cupid, 2023). As education attempts to shift in a more equitable direction for students of color, we, as authors and faculty at higher education institutions, recognize there is much more work to be done. To further the conversation on how to support, this chapter speaks explicitly to strategies for creating successful pathways for the well-being of Black students in postsecondary/higher education learning spaces. This chapter explores strategies to support Black students using a holistic approach that is emotional, social, and societal, all of which ultimately impact physical well-being. As faculty who identify as Black, working directly with Black students collectively, we bring over 35 years of experience. With this experience, we merge theory and practice to provide a space for envisioning strategies and techniques that aid in improving the environment and experience of and for Black students.
