Ultrafast spatial scanning by pulse-periodic chirped laser radiation along two orthogonal coordinates

Subject of study. The study proposes a laser system for ultrafast spatial scanning using pulse-periodic chirped pulses based on a femtosecond master oscillator (MO) with a Yb:KYW crystal, diode pumping, and a delay line with high group-delay dispersion. Aim of study. The aim of this study is to experimentally implement ultrafast spatial scanning using pulse-periodic chirped laser radiation of subnanosecond duration for the detection and coordinate determination of small-sized objects in an optical-location task. Two diffraction gratings with orthogonal principal planes are used to scan along two angular coordinates. Method. The ultrafast scanning system is physically modeled using a custom-designed laser setup. Main results. A laser system was developed based on a femtosecond MO with a Yb:KYW crystal, diode pumping, and a delay line with high group-delay dispersion to simulate the operation of an optical-location system employing chirped laser pulses. The temporal, spectral, and power characteristics of the laser radiation were measured. The feasibility of ultrafast scanning along two orthogonal spatial coordinates using two diffraction gratings was experimentally demonstrated. Practical significance. This study experimentally validated ultrafast spatial scanning with chirped laser radiation. The proposed method holds promise for the development of high-speed, high-precision laser location systems operating in the near-infrared spectral range.
