On Studying Harmonic Distortion Problems in Ship Electric Grids

The paper deals with the harmonic power quality problems provoked in ship electric energy systems due to the extensive electrification aiming at greener shipping. This distortion mostly due to power electronics results in the circulation of excessive energy quantity (corresponding to the non-active power) which has to be somehow studied as it provokes several adverse consequences. In this paper the problems risen when harmonics circulate in the ship grid are analyzed using fundamental principles of circuit analysis. The analysis is supported by field test measurements.
