Divided, lost and found: NLR Ms. Evr. II B 1150+

This article offers a study of Ms. Evr. II B 1150+, a tenth-century Hebrew Bible codex of the Latter Prophets, now preserved in the National Library of Russia. Drawing on previously unpublished materials and codicological evidence, the authors reconstruct the manuscript’s history, including a probable origin in Rabbanite circles in Jerusalem–Egypt, its nineteenth-century acquisition by Abraham Firkovich, and the loss of folios in the 1980s at the National Library of Russia. Infrared imaging of the blackened colophon and detailed examination of the quire structure reveal early Mizraḥi scribal practices. The study also addresses the codex’s early colophon and sale note, offering insight into medieval manuscript circulation and calendar traditions. Finally, the article documents the manuscript’s dismemberment and partial recovery, proposing a unified designation, Evr. II B 1150+, for its constituent classmarks.
