Tourism, Gastronomy, and Gender: Contribution of Wild Edible Plants to the Beypazarı Female Community

The aim of this chapter is to explore how wild edible plants, an important component of food culture, intersect gastronomy, gender equality, and social development in a sustainable way through tourism. Wild edible plants, which are a unique gastronomic accumulation, and the knowledge of using them can be transferred from generation to generation, turning into both an economic gain and a sustainable tool that will improve the social structure, especially through women. In order to achieve this aim, the place of wild edible plants in culinary culture was examined and the example of Beypazarı/Ankara/Turkiye was examined. The use and sale of wild edible plants, which are an important value in food culture, reveal important opportunities that especially women in Beypazarı and its region use to achieve gender equality in social and economic life.
