Mass Live and Interactive Multi-Cam VR360 Experiences as an Immersive Parallel Window to TV Broadcast Shows

This paper presents a novel, versatile, and scalable end-to-end system for delivering live, synchronized multi-camera VR360 experiences to remote audiences, with cross-platform support on the consumption side. The system was deployed as an immersive complement to a live prime-time TV talent show, enabling viewers to dynamically switch between four VR360 camera views located throughout the concert hall (on-stage, within the crowd, beside the jury table, and inside the production room) during the three-hour broadcast. The pilot reached over 20,000 unique users across diverse geographic regions and collected 130 responses to a post-experience questionnaire, which underscored the system’s satisfactory performance and promising potential to enrich broadcast services through immersive, personalized experiences via adaptive broadband delivery.
