Synergic Interaction of a Phosphonium‐Based Ionic Liquid with a Synthesized Carbocyclic Sugar‐Based Inositol Derivative

Abstract Ionic liquids (ILs) have several applications, such as solubilizers, transporters, and enhancing component efficacy. The phosphonium‐based ionic liquid (IL), i.e., trihexyltetradecylphosphonium bis(2,4,4‐trimethylpentyl)phosphinate ([ P 666(14) ][TMPP]), might be affected by synergic interaction with synthesized carbocyclic sugar‐based inositol derivative, i.e., 1,2‐ cis ‐ketal,1,4‐dibenzoyl‐ myo ‐inositol ( cis ‐ketal), were investigated with dynamic light scattering (DLS), surface tension, FTIR, conductivity, colorimetry, and viscometry at 299.0 ± 0.5 K temperature. The zeta potential, particle size distribution, critical micelle concentrations (CMC), and various thermodynamic parameters, viz., Δ G ° ads, Δ G ° trans, ∆ G s min , Δ G ° m , Δ G ° m, tail and interfacial parameters, i.e., Г max , A min , π CMC , p C 20 , and γ CMC, have been calculated. A substantial drop in IL CMC values was observed at various cis ‐ketal concentrations (mM), and their conformational study was conducted by conductometric and colorimetric techniques. For IL‐ cis ‐ketal systems, rheological behavior based on reduced, intrinsic, and relative viscosity was computed. Self‐aggregation of IL with cis ‐ketal was affected by electrostatic, hydrophilic, and hydrophobic interactions. The IL with cis ‐ketal shows various types of stretching and bending frequencies that were characterized by the FTIR method. The DLS data displayed that the IL with 2.0 mM cis ‐ketal system has generated significantly larger micelles than pure IL due to the polar character of cis ‐ketal. The current investigation can find potential applications in pharmaceutical sciences, cosmetics, medicinal delivery, etc.
