Special Issue on Adaptive and Smart Energy Systems for Sustainable and Resilient Buildings

This special issue addresses some of the techniques and strategies for adaptive and smart energy systems to enhance the energy efficiency and resiliency of buildings. Specifically, the focus of the special issue is to highlight advanced technologies, control strategies, and analysis tools for designing, retrofitting, and operating buildings to reduce their energy demands. In particular, the special issue would address adaptive building energy systems that can adjust their properties and operations under a wide range of conditions including extreme weather events. Technologies covered include kinematic facades, rotating buildings, and dynamic PV-integrated exterior shades as well as hybrid heating and cooling systems. In addition, the special issue covers advanced modeling and control strategies using a wide range of optimization and reinforcement learning techniques.
