Husbandry Plan for Frilled-Neck Lizard ( <i>Chlamydosaurus kingii</i> )

Abstract Reptiles as taxa are heavily kept as exotic pets; however, the care requirements are anecdotal or lack the evidence to support these practices. Frilled-neck lizards ( Chlamydosaurus kingii ) are a reptile endemic to Australia that can be kept as an exotic pet in the UK. Despite the species being readily available, evidence-based husbandry and optimal welfare are limited, compared to more popular reptile species such as bearded dragons ( Pogona vitticeps ), which often focuses at minimum requirements. This review looks at the research that is available for the species and what optimal welfare would be and highlights areas that are still unknown or not published. Also giving a case study of how an evidence-based plan would be conducted. Information © The Author 2025
