Advancing Design Principles for Industry 5.0 with a Focus on Human‐Centered Innovation

This chapter discusses the changing design principles towards Industry 5.0 with special attention paid to human-centered innovation as an essential near-field fundamental feature for boosting user experience and operational performance. With industries shifting to collaborative spaces where human intelligence works in conjunction with technical capabilities, human-centric design is crucial. The literature survey reveals existing work on the user-centered frameworks and methodologies, while indicating gaps in this area by identifying issues that need to be explored further. This chapter explores the different technological possibilities that will make human-centered design artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and robotics. Empirical evidence supporting the influence of these principles on design practice as well as the challenges and barriers to implementation are also addressed. The future directions for research are suggested, with clear calls for continued work toward innovative design methods. The chapter will end with a call for changing towards human-centered approaches of Industry 5.0 to improve sustainable development and innovation.
