Prototyping innovative mechanisms for incentive-driven explicit flexibility in residential buildings

The paper presents the pilot case within EU project STREAM [1]. The STREAM Finnish pilot prototypes innovative mechanisms for incentive-driven flexible usage of active power to help stabilizing and optimising the grid. This prototype studies the possibility to use a pre-defined part of the load used for heating the buildings as a Frequency Containment Reserve as an additional layer to SPOT price optimization that is already in use. The research questions and use cases cover overall feasibility of including household assets within FCR services, optimising the amount of available flexibility as well as ensuring customer service level while providing flexibility.
