Secure Communication in Wireless Sensor Networks Using Cuckoo Hash-Based Multi-Factor Authentication

As WSNs face factors such as unauthorized access, resource constraints and ever-changing threats, WSNs need enhanced security models. This study presents the Cuckoo Hash-Based Multi-Factor Authentication (CH-MFA) framework, which employs a two-phase process for secure communication, including registration and authentication. In the registration phase, the sensor nodes will convey unique identity information to the BS and the Cuckoo Hash functions are used to safely store the credits. Multifactor mechanisms such as password and session base verifications used in the authentication phase allows only nodes to have access to sensitive data. CH-MFA framework is a combination of cryptographic techniques with hashing methods that improve security, decrease the computational load and energy consumption. A proof of concept has been implemented in a cloud environment to show that this model is both practical and easily expanded. The outcome of experiments shows that the proposed system-CH-MFA consumes lower energy, guarantees higher level of authentication, and offers better protection against illegitimate users than the prevailing techniques to secure data integrity. CH-MFA shows value as a security technique because it enables systems to match strict security requirements making it appropriate for WSNs under advanced RFID IoT scenarios. With 500 nodes the system maintains a 91% success rate accuracy which provides secure communication for preliminary WSN implementations.
