The use of ultrasonics in the frequency range of 50MHz up to 175 MHz for cultural heritage objects’ 3D μtomography

Nondestructive testing/examination of cultural heritage objects is critical for the revealment of the internal structure of these items. The aim of this work is the documentation of the inner structure of several small sized, cultural heritage objects in a non-destructive way, in order to provide critical information for their conservation, taking into consideration that art objects are not offered for sampling procedures, due to their value and fragility. The objects used for this study came from the archaeological site of Aigai, at the tomb of the Macedonian king Phillip II.
