Assessing Environmental Noise Impact on Heritage Government Buildings: A Study of TCE-PR Facades

The objective of this study is to assess the incidence of the urban noise at the facades of the Paraná State Court of Accounts "Tribunal de Contas do Estado do Paraná" (TCE-PR), located at the Civic Center of Curitiba, a planned government district and a heritage-listed area of great urban and cultural relevance. The TCE-PR buildings, officially designated as historical landmarks, present unique architectural features that must be preserved while addressing environmental noise challenges. The methodology integrates in situ measurements, following NBR 10151, with three-dimensional acoustic mapping following ISO 9613, enabling a detailed evaluation of noise incidence across the facades. The results indicate that the facades are subject to distinct noise level gradients, influenced by urban traffic dynamics and surrounding structures. These variations require different sound insulation strategies to ensure acoustic comfort while preserving the architectural and historical integrity of the buildings. The combined methodology provides a quantitative framework for optimizing façade insulation, preventing over or under-dimensioning of acoustic treatments. Additionally, the use of predictive acoustic modeling has demonstrated the importance of tailored acoustic solutions for heritage buildings exposed to urban noise pollution.
