Honeymooring Reference Designs for Shallow Water

Abstract Floating offshore wind farms can produce large amounts of renewable energy close to consumption hot spots around the globe. Honeymooring is a novel grid solution for cost-effective and sustainable floating wind farms. In this article we present two Honeymooring reference designs, with 3 and 6 lines per floater. The reference designs consider a grid of six 15MW turbines at a 188m deep site with harsh environmental conditions at the east coast of South-Korea. Results show that line MBL of 1200ton is sufficient, and max offset is only 27% of water depth, for the 3 line system. The objectives of presenting the reference designs are to (1) serve as a benchmark for mooring research and (2) inspire the development of software capabilities and regulatory frameworks for mechanically connected floating wind turbines.
