Impact of Grid Disturbances on 2-Wheeler EV Battery Charging

This paper investigates the impact of grid disturbances on the 2-wheeler electric vehicle (EV) battery charging in the grid-to-vehicle mode. Voltage sag and voltage swell has been taken as the grid disturbances. A simple full-wave diode rectifier based unidirectional EV charger is considered for this study. Constant current charging method has been used for EV battery charging. Different practical cases of grid disturbances are applied during battery charging. Simulations for making of battery charger, its charging mechanism, and generation of voltage sag and swell are presented in a detailed manner. Impact of the disturbances are tested and analyzed through the MATLAB-Simulink.
