Effectiveness of temporary acoustic barriers for construction noise control.

One of the main challenges during the construction phase of a project is the management of noise from machinery, especially when it is not possible to use low-noise equipment or alternative construction methods. In these cases, a common solution is to install temporary noise barriers using low-density modular systems that can be reused on different construction sites. This study evaluates the effectiveness of such barriers through in-situ acoustic testing, analysing their noise attenuation capacity in different configurations and operating conditions. In addition, the implementation of these barriers in an acoustic modelling software is analysed to identify possible deviations between the software predictions and the effective attenuation observed in the field. The results demonstrate the feasibility of these systems as a noise mitigation measure for construction projects in urban environments. This research contributes to the development of more sustainable construction practices that prioritise community well-being and comply with noise regulations by optimising the use of such barriers.
