The current security environment at an international level exemplifies the intricate correlation and multilateral interdependencies between civilian and military stakeholders. In addition to the presented complexity, climate change as a global phenomenon further exacerbates existing risks and originates new challenges which pose significant threat to the equilibrium of individuals and nations in all aspects and at all levels. Therefore, the international expert community has agreed that climate change and its multi-layered implications on the security environment could and should be addressed through the combined efforts on behalf of both national and international organisations, by applying a systemic approach that goes beyond the traditional boundaries of cooperation and places emphasis on the pro-active ex-change of best practices and know-how with the strategic goal to further enhance existing and create, if necessary, new capabilities which are required in order for nations to adequately address the pressing novel security requirements at a global level.
