Prospects for the widespread introduction of digital technologies in models of medical care for people with tuberculosis

The introduction of telemedicine, electronic information systems, and data analysis using artificial intelligence opens up new opportunities for TB prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care. In the context of a full-scale war against Ukraine, digital tools are an effective solution to improve access to TB services. The purpose of the study is to analyse the impact of existing digital tools in Ukraine and assess potential results of their widespread implementation. Telemedicine and video support for treatment. The proportion of people with TB in Ukraine who receive video DOT as a means of support has increased from 23% to 51% among people treated as outpatients. This allows for remote monitoring of the patient's condition and improves access to healthcare for people in remote or hard-to-reach areas. The information system for socially significant diseases is widely implemented and used in Ukraine. This system provides real-time information about all people in Ukraine who have been diagnosed with TB, the progress of the disease, the treatment they have received and the results of their treatment. This enables NTP representatives to accumulate and analyse information on TB from all parts of country and respond promptly to identified gaps. In 2024, fourteen AI-powered systems for automated X-ray analysis were deployed. These systems are now successfully used in daily clinical practice, significantly facilitating and accelerating diagnosis of tuberculosis and lung diseases. Digital technologies have significant potential to improve the diagnosis, treatment and management of lung diseases, helping to provide more efficient and person-centred care for patients.
