A multidisciplinary methodology to detect changes in energy-consuming practices: an application on the dishwashing use

Abstract Understanding energy-consuming behaviours is essential for supporting residential occupants in their energy conservation efforts. This study presents a multidisciplinary approach that integrates technical and socio-psychological perspectives to investigate energy-consuming behaviours in domestic settings. It also proposes a methodology for detecting behavioural changes following targeted interventions. The methodology is applied to dishwasher usage as a case study. Initial interviews with participants provide insights into how they perform dishwashing tasks, the motivations behind their behaviours, and their expectations regarding the experimental process. By developing a comprehensive understanding of these behaviours, context-specific interventions will be designed and tailored to each case study, encouraging individuals to adopt and maintain more energy-efficient behaviours.
