Weaving the code of life: interpreting how gene editing diagnoses and treats rare diseases for adolescents

Objective: This paper aims to develop a set of scientific educational resources for adolescents (aged 13-18), systematically reviewing the research theories and achievements of gene editing technology in the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases in an accessible manner, covering mainstream technologies such as CRISPR-Cas9, base editing, and prime editing. Methods: Through systematic literature research, the accuracy of scientific content was ensured; meanwhile, "science popularization" design principles such as metaphors and narratives were adopted to transform complex concepts into knowledge modules suitable for adolescents cognitive level. Results: A complete and vividly written educational review was formed, an effective scientific communication methodology was summarized, and a clear comparative framework for gene editing technologies was provided. Conclusion: Science popularization for adolescents is of great importance. This study provides teaching materials that can be directly used in classrooms or popular science activities, proves the feasibility and value of "translating" cutting-edge scientific and technological knowledge to the younger generation, and guides them to conduct in-depth thinking on scientific and technological ethics.
