The influence of laser surface texture on the bearing capacity and service damage of interference fit surfaces

Abstract The influence of laser surface texture on the bearing capacity and service damage characteristics of interference fit interfaces was studied by the self-developed interference fit experimental device. Taking the train bogie as the research object, the influence of texture shape and area density on the bearing capacity was explored, and the optimal texture parameters were obtained. Then, service simulation experiments were conducted on the textured specimens using the WPA-20 testing machine to study the evolution characteristics of the service performance of the interference fit interface under different load frequencies. The experimental results show that the circular textured surface with an area density of 20% has the best bearing capacity and the smallest service damage. The mechanism of surface texture was explained from the surface morphology and material properties. After texturing treatment, the unique morphological features of the textured surface enhanced the load-bearing capacity of the sample. The fine grain strengthening and dislocation strengthening of the surface material effectively improved the surface strength and surface hardness of the axial interference fit surface.
