Smart Street Pole and Mitigation of Clogging in Drainage System

Urban areas are rapidly expanding with the need for intelligent infrastructure to tackle issues related to environmental monitoring and drainage. This paper describes an IoT-enabled dual-purpose device that consists of a Smart Street Pole and a Drainage Clogging Detection Unit. The Smart Pole collects data on temperature, humidity, air quality, and noise while also enabling real-time monitoring and uploading data to the cloud. The Drainage Clogging Detection Unit collects motion sensor data combined with GPS location sensors to detect clogging in drainage and provide location data via LoRa. The experimental results show reliable sensor accuracy, reliable communication range (200m LOS), and reliable clogging response time. The proposed system provided a scalable and cost-effective solution for real-time urban infrastructure surveillance and monitoring, which has several additional benefits such as predictive maintenance and integration into smart networking cities.
