Co- and V-Doped MoS ₂ Nanosheet Composites for Efficient Hydrogen Evolution Reaction in the Universal pH Range

Leveraging the exceptional tunability of polyoxometalates (POMs), we modified ammonium heptamolybdate using methods such as metal doping, organic modification, and cation exchange. As a result, we successfully synthesized organic molecule-modified POM containing three metals, [Co(NH₃)₆][Mo₆VO₁₈{(OCH₂)₃CH}₂] (CoMo₆V-H), for the first time. Subsequently, using this POM as a precursor and thiourea as the sulfur source, Co- and V-doped MoS₂-based nanomaterials supported on carbon cloth (Co, V-MoS₂@CC) were fabricated via a one-step hydrothermal method. By means of a series of characterizations and electrochemical measurements, the outcomes demonstrate that doping with Co and V effectively boosts the catalytic performance of MoS₂. In alkaline and acidic environments, at an operating current density of 10 mA/cm², the overpotentials of the catalyst are only 86 and 153 mV, respectively, demonstrating excellent HER performance and outstanding chemical stability (72 h). These findings offer fresh insights and references for the preparation of electrocatalytic materials that are both low-cost and highly efficient.
