Increasing resolution transmission through imaging multi-core fiber via code mask multiplexing

Inherent constraints often limit the optical resolution of many imaging systems. This article introduces a novel geometric super-resolution approach based on orthogonal code-division multiplexing. Our novelty lies in using the inherent pixel redundancy of a high-resolution detector to overcome the resolution limitations imposed by a low-resolution optical element, all while preserving the field of view. The method utilizes a coding mask placed in the object plane, as opposed to the conventional approach of placing it in the spectral plane. We first describe the theoretical foundations of the approach, followed by numerical simulations that demonstrate an impressive 9-fold enhancement in 1D of the image resolution. Finally, experimental results confirm a threefold improvement, highlighting the practical effectiveness and potential of this technique.
