Behavioral Economics: A Cognitive Examination of Real Decision Making

Behavioral economics provides a framework for examining real decision-making by acknowledging that human cognition is shaped by biases, emotional forces, cultural patterns, and contextual interpretation rather than purely rational calculation. This paper explores the psychological foundations of economic behavior, focusing on biases such as loss aversion, anchoring, temporal discounting, and probability weighting. Additionally, this study examines how these behavioral factors emerge uniquely in the Indian socio-economic environment, where family influence, cultural norms, risk avoidance, saving mentality, and social signaling play major roles in shaping financial decisions.
