Minimally Invasive Image-guided Sclerotherapy of Large Aneurysmal Bone Cyst in a Child with 5 Years Follow-up

Abstract A 7-year-old female patient presented with localized pain and swelling in the metacarpal region. Clinical examination revealed a firm, immobile, and tender swelling over the third metacarpal. Radiographs suggested a lytic expansile lesion of the diaphysis, abutting the epiphysis. Biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of an aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC). The patient underwent four sessions of image-guided sclerotherapy using polidocanol. This case report brings out complete resolution of a large expansile lytic ABC of the metacarpal with no recurrence at 5-year follow-up, thus obviating the need for complex open procedures.
