Background: Von Willebrand disease (vWD) is an inherited bleeding disorder affecting ∼1.2% of Americans. Prevalence is equal between sexes but adversely affects women during menstruation and childbirth. Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) interferes significantly with women’s quality of life and is associated with comorbidities including anemia. Treatment strategies including hormone therapy, desmopressin and hysterectomy have some clinical benefit but HMB+vWD patients continue to experience poorer quality of life and greater healthcare resource utilization than general populations [1,2].
