Background: Most students going through the stage of transition to university lifeface many stressors. Accordingly, maintaining positive unconditioned acceptance ofself and establishing goals could prevent attempts to use maladaptive mechanismsof coping, such as engaging in addictive behaviors. Addiction proneness must bedetected to achieve the requirements of such stage and prevent drawbacks on thenursing students as well as on the whole profession. Objectives: Assess Selfacceptance,Goal pursuit and proneness to addiction among Faculty nursingstudents. Setting: The study was conducted at the Faculty of Nursing, AlexandriaUniversity. Subjects: The study subjects comprised 500 undergraduate nursingstudents at Faculty of Nursing, Alexandria University. Tools: Four tools were usedfor this study namely, Socio-Demographic and academic, Structured questionnaire,Unconditional Self-Acceptance Questionnaire (USAQ), Tenacious Goal Pursuit(TEN) and Addiction Susceptibility Questionnaire-Adolescent Students Version(ASQ). RESULT: The majority of nursing students (93.8%) had moderateUnconditional self-acceptance. In addition , most of the studied students hadmoderate and high level of tenacious goal pursuit (55.2%. 41.2% respectively).Inrelation to addiction susceptibility, 20.8% of the studied students had moderatelevel of addiction susceptibility, and only 8.0% of them had high level of AddictionSusceptibility. While 71.2% of the students had no addiction susceptibility.Conclusion: Nursing students in the faculty of nursing at Alexandria universityexperience a significant level of Unconditional self-acceptance and tenacious goalpursuit. And as both of these factors work as protective factors against addiction,the studied students proved to have low level of addiction susceptibility.Recommendation: Educational programs in the current nursing curricula shouldfocus on promoting self-acceptance, and goal pursuit to prevent negativeconsequences of addiction, and increase students’ awareness of this problem.
