Sustainability Integration of Building Information Modeling in Construction Management

The integration of building information modeling (BIM) applications to enhance the sustainability of the built environment has been increasing. The BIM and sustainability integration (SI) application directly affects the three aspects of sustainability, including social, economic, and environmental. This paper aims to (1) examine the existing application of the BIM and SI (BIM & SI) practices regarding the triple bottom line (TBL) aspects, (2) identify the critical success factors (CSFs) at examined companies, industry, and at local and national levels to support BIM & SI applications. A systematic review of the existing literature, descriptive statistical analysis, and a personal Chi-square test were used to identify significant CSFs from construction professionals. The study found significant applications of BIM & SI in the study sample; it also indicates the types of construction projects and the features of applying BIM & SI. Furthermore, it provides significant CSFs related to BIM & SI application at companies, in construction industries, and for local and national authorities.
