Measurement of the <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mml:mi>η</mml:mi></mml:math> transition form factor through the <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><mml:msup><mml:mi>η</mml:mi><mml:mo>′</mml:mo></mml:msup><mml:mo stretchy="false">→</mml:mo><mml:msup><mml:mi>π</mml:mi><mml:mo>+</mml:mo></mml:msup><mml:msup><mml:mi>π</mml:mi><mml:mo>−</mml:mo></mml:msup><mml:mi>η</mml:mi></mml:math> decay

Based on a sample of <a:math xmlns:a="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><a:mo stretchy="false">(</a:mo><a:mn>1.0087</a:mn><a:mo>±</a:mo><a:mn>0.0044</a:mn><a:mo stretchy="false">)</a:mo><a:mo>×</a:mo><a:msup><a:mn>10</a:mn><a:mn>10</a:mn></a:msup><a:mtext> </a:mtext><a:mtext> </a:mtext><a:mi>J</a:mi><a:mo>/</a:mo><a:mi>ψ</a:mi></a:math> events collected at BESIII, the transition form factor of the <e:math xmlns:e="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><e:mi>η</e:mi></e:math> meson is extracted by analyzing <g:math xmlns:g="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><g:mi>J</g:mi><g:mo>/</g:mo><g:mi>ψ</g:mi><g:mo stretchy="false">→</g:mo><g:mi>γ</g:mi><g:msup><g:mi>η</g:mi><g:mo>′</g:mo></g:msup><g:mo>,</g:mo><g:msup><g:mi>η</g:mi><g:mo>′</g:mo></g:msup><g:mo stretchy="false">→</g:mo><g:msup><g:mi>π</g:mi><g:mo>+</g:mo></g:msup><g:msup><g:mi>π</g:mi><g:mo>−</g:mo></g:msup><g:mi>η</g:mi></g:math> and <k:math xmlns:k="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><k:mi>η</k:mi><k:mo stretchy="false">→</k:mo><k:mi>γ</k:mi><k:msup><k:mi>l</k:mi><k:mo>+</k:mo></k:msup><k:msup><k:mi>l</k:mi><k:mo>−</k:mo></k:msup></k:math> (<n:math xmlns:n="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><n:mi>l</n:mi><n:mo>=</n:mo><n:mi>e</n:mi></n:math>, <p:math xmlns:p="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><p:mi>μ</p:mi></p:math>) events. In addition, we search for the dark photon (<qc:math xmlns:qc="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><qc:msup><qc:mi>A</qc:mi><qc:mo>′</qc:mo></qc:msup></qc:math>) using the combined events. No significant signal is observed, and the upper limits on <sc:math xmlns:sc="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><sc:mi mathvariant="script">B</sc:mi><sc:mo stretchy="false">(</sc:mo><sc:mi>η</sc:mi><sc:mo stretchy="false">→</sc:mo><sc:mi>γ</sc:mi><sc:msup><sc:mi>A</sc:mi><sc:mo>′</sc:mo></sc:msup><sc:mo>,</sc:mo><sc:msup><sc:mi>A</sc:mi><sc:mo>′</sc:mo></sc:msup><sc:mo stretchy="false">→</sc:mo><sc:msup><sc:mi>e</sc:mi><sc:mo>+</sc:mo></sc:msup><sc:msup><sc:mi>e</sc:mi><sc:mo>−</sc:mo></sc:msup><sc:mo stretchy="false">)</sc:mo></sc:math> are set at the 90% confidence level for different <zc:math xmlns:zc="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><zc:msup><zc:mi>A</zc:mi><zc:mo>′</zc:mo></zc:msup></zc:math> mass hypotheses.
