Study on the Development of Wireless Gait Function Assessment Devices

With the rapid increase in the elderly population, there is an urgent need to improve the quality of life (QOL) for older adults. One crucial aspect of QOL is the ability to maintain independence in activities of daily living (ADL). Gait function plays a vital role in the performance of ADL. The aim of this study is to develop a low-cost, wireless, compact sensor device capable of assessing gait function. The developed device was attached to both feet. Each device simultaneously measured the swing angle and swing speed in two directions of the foot, as well as the foot pressure at six points. The measurement results were sent wirelessly to a PC and compiled into a single data set.
