Impact of Crime Re-enacted Shows on Youth: A Case Study of Students of The University of Punjab

This survey-based study investigates the impact of TV reenacted crime shows on Pakistani youth. The study was conducted at the University of Punjab (Pakistan). The related literature review helps identify variables such as violence, language, seduction, instigation, and fear that serve as possible environmental factors resulting from TV reenacted shows depicting crime scenes. The sample selected for the study consisted of university students aged 21-30 years to gather their perceptions on the role of TV re-enacted shows on Pakistani youth. A quantitative sample of 110 respondents was gathered through distributing the questionnaire, with determining response rate of 91% for analysis. Findings unveiled that mostly youth consider violence and obscene language as justifying the commitment of a crime in the right situation, which was learnt through the reenacted show. A significant number of youths feel that displaying love scenes, flirting acts, and physical unlawful relations causes seduction through TV-reenacted crime shows. Many feel among youth viewers that society is grossly unsafe because of viewing violence, as well as crimes in the reenacted shows.
