Road Injuries in 18 Countries: Methods, data sources and estimates of the national incidence of road injuries

The authors conducted this project to develop tools and methods for developing analytical methods that can be used to estimate reliable population-level incidence of traffic accident injuries around the world, from a variety of data sources that currently exist. These data sources include vital registers that record causes of death, hospital administrative records, periodic health surveys, and mortuary records. The authors describe how these data sources should be used to develop national estimates of the incidence of road traffic accident injuries and provide 18 examples of the application of these methods.
