TEACHING LISTENING COMPREHENSION SKILLS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION

Listening comprehension is one of the most essential yet challenging skills in English language education. This article examines the nature, importance, and teaching strategies of listening comprehension in the context of communicative language learning. It emphasizes that listening is an active process involving both bottom-up and top-down processing. The paper also identifies common learner difficulties and provides practical methods to improve listening through pre-listening, while-listening, and post-listening activities. It further highlights the teacher’s role in fostering listening proficiency through authentic materials, technology integration, and strategy-based instruction. The article concludes that effective listening instruction empowers learners to understand and communicate more confidently in real-life situations.
